To help you prepare for your child’s evaluation and to ensure we are able to get the best understanding of your child and their development, we have provided the following list of best practices and suggested materials.
Computer or Smartphone with camera and microphone capabilities
- Download the free Microsoft Teams app to your smartphone (not required if using a laptop) At the time of the evaluation, log into the app.
- Click on the invitation link (either through your device calendar, event within your email inbox, or MS teams calendar.
- Turn on the camera and microphone by clicking the on-screen icons.
- Consider using two different devices during evaluation. One to face the child and the other for the parent being interviewed (not required but recommended)
- Please test out joining the meeting a day before your evaluation.
Space for evaluation
- Open space on the floor where child can be viewed clearly such as the living room, playroom or bedroom.
- Free of distractions such as siblings, pets, TV and background noise.
Suggested Toys (not required, but helpful)
- Infants: rattle or bell, a high contrast toy or picture card (yellow and red or black and white)
- Pegs – Substitute: Adult cup lid with straw, fruit pouch or juice box Blocks – Substitute: Toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes, juice boxes, small raisin boxes
- Nesting cups/Stacking Rings – Substitute: Measuring cups, plastic cups or bowls
- Puzzle – Substitute: shape sorter Crayons/Marker & Paper
- Different sized objects for them to pick up; cotton balls, cheerios, puffs
- Empty water bottle
- Small mirror
- Small cloth/shirt to hide object
- Snack such as goldfish or fruit snack Ball
- Babydoll, baby doll bottle
