Purpose

We are committed to creatively supporting families in building partnerships based on the strengths and gifts of families and our community.

Eligibility

The Family Support Services Program (FSSP) offers supports to families that have a family member with a developmental disability at home. The identified family member must meet all eligibility criteria of The Resource Exchange for a developmental disability. He or she must reside in the family home and must be related to the other member or members of the family by blood or law.

Services and Supports

An array of supports is available. These include, but are not limited to: Information and referrals to community resources, advocacy (in schools or job-sites, etc.), coordination of supports and crisis intervention. Funding for FSSP comes from the State General Fund (taxpayer dollars), and is therefore limited. Families may apply for funding assistance for things such as: home or vehicle modifications, specialized diets or clothing, medical services not covered by a family’s private insurance or Medicaid, respite, etc. In making funding decisions, FSSP staff takes into account the levels of need of each family applying, overall availability of funds, and the number of requests that have been received. FSSP is not an entitlement program. There is no guarantee that any funding will be available.

What We Do

Community Input
A Family Support Council was established in January 1992 to act in an advisory role to The Resource Exchange’s Board of Directors. The Council is made up of volunteers representing family members, community agencies and professionals. The purpose of the Family Support Council is to become knowledgeable of the interests of families in the community. The Council utilizes this information in formulating recommendations regarding Family Support to the Board of Directors and TRE staff.
